OMG, I thought this would never happen to me!

Plagiarized
I think I've been plagiarized!

http://www.bloopdiary.com/viewentry.php?id=43796&num=80

I know this has happened to others here. I'm too stunned to be angry. Gobsmacked, that's a good word for this. I'm gobsmacked.

Somebody tell me that this person did not copy my story word for word (including the title) and post it in her blog.

I'm going to go drool in a corner now.

That's unbelievable! ::wide eyed:: There's an LJ comm out there that deals with plagiarists stop_plagiarism I think; they might have some ideas about how to deal with this.

And I bet those icons are hot-linked...

Thank you, Jane.

*Hugs you back*

I had the same thought about the icons. I recognize some of them, but don't know who made them. Now [info]amybnnyc has found that this person has posted several stories that aren't hers.

I can't imagine why anyone would do this.

Thank you. I only just discovered it and was too stunned to know what to do. I thought about leaving her a comment or sending her an email, but I was half afraid it was something she was putting up there as a recommendation, and then I'd look like a total dope.

But the more I check this out... nope, she's passing it off as hers. She even took out my nods to the betas.

Unbelievable!

How did you ever find the story?
[info]mommanerd wrote:
Jan. 15th, 2006 11:48 pm (UTC)
It is certainly not an easy to view site.

I must shamefully confess that I found the story while I was trolling around looking for feedback. "Stay Away from Randy" has been archived at three or four sites, and instead of visiting each of them and looking up comments, I just did a Yahoo search of the title and found this.

The truth is out -- I'm a total feedback whore!

That's terrible!

You should take it to [info]stop_plagiarism. My good friend [info]quinara is one of the mods there and they have done a great job dealing with other cases in the past.

It's not just plagiarism - it's theft! That person has just taken your story and put it up with her own name inserted as author.

And on the most hideous site that I've ever seen, too.

I've browsed back through the previous entries and come across a couple of other stories that I'd read before. I can't remember the names of the authors and so I can't rule out them being genuinely by this 'Spikes Fics' but it definitely isn't a name that rings any bells and the styles of the stories don't seem to match. I strongly suspect a serial thief/plagiarist.

The alternative (as none of the previous stories seem to have attracted the favourable comments that "Stay Away From Randy" is attracting) is someone who has failed to get recognition with their own work and so has stolen yours.

If you can, grab a screen shot of the story in question in case it gets taken down.

I'm so sorry. I recognized that story from seasonal spuffy, and several of the icons as Mr. Monkeybottoms. Has anyone told Monkey?

I find that site almost completely unnavigable, but it took me about two minutes googling to find she'd also stolen this story:

I'm going to let the writer know.

And here's another:

http://cityofhellville.com/fic.php?homeiswherethevampis

In this case the clever little plagiarist actually changed something. She used the chapter name instead of the fic name so it took me two minutes to find the original instead of two.
[info]mrmonkeybottoms wrote:

She has used several of my icons, but on my icon page I only ask that people don't hotlink to me. They are free to take and use as they want, I don't care about credit. So I suppose as far as it goes she didn't do anything less than I asked. The fics, however, are an entirely different story. Bad times all around.

She got four of mine and changed to titles on two, but that's only because she was too thick to figure them out and may well be smart enough to figure that she couldn't answer that question if asked.

What's even more pathetic is that, if her DoB is correct (25 August 1984), she's more than old enough to know better. Although, from the few pitiful examples of her drivel, you'd be hard-pressed to guess she was more than 12. Somehow I doubt it is, as she has different information on the three sites credited to her.

I'm just happy you found the little cow. It's surprising she's gotten away with this for more than a year, although that may say more about BloopDiary than anything else.

The comments were pretty inane and quite often were in reference to the image accompanying the story instead, so you're not missing out much. Then there's various mispellings of I love Spike.

Do we get a Big Name Author hat now? Or have we just become idiot magnets?

I added a post about it as well. Thought it best to let everyone know that I've been told about it, although the post has already managed to attract a troll who believes we're all lying about this.

This has happened to me before and it just makes me want to weep. It's mental and emotion rape and I hope the culprit is dragged before the community and shown to be the dishonest, pitiful person she or he is.
